Women and Girl Child Development Association (WEGCDA) History
As a non-profit and not politically motivated, independent Non-Governmental Organisation, WEGCDA started from far and up-scaling the women and girl child’s issues to the forefront. WEGCDA was originally born in 2007 by independent group of two girls, nine women and one boy with a Rotating Savings Credit Association (ROSCA).
In December, 2009 WEGCDA was legally registered as a company limited by guarantee without share capital with the Ministry of Internal Affairs (Registration No. 5914/8361) under NGO Board to seek redress to issues that have long been adversely deterring women and the girl child involvement in the development process. The impediments to women and girl child involvement range from social, economic, cultural as well as political spheres of life comprise of elements such as domestic violence and abuse, poverty, unemployment, high literacy rates, early marriages and inadequate awareness creation.

To mobilize and empower women and girl child both in rural and urban to effectively participate in the development process.

Women and Girl child development association (WEGCDA), is committed to promoting women and girl child status locally and nationally and basing on a number of thematic areas of concern/focus including; economic empowerment, capacity building and utilization, equity and budgeting, vocational skills training, advocacy and human rights, youth and girl child empowerment plus consultancy in gender.
