1.     Membership

WEGCDA has 450 members in various regions in Uganda and still attracting more members in every month. Kampala, Wakiso, Luwero, Mpigi, Mityana districts have been mostly our areas of coverage.

WEGCDA members include:

  • Women and girls in groups above 18 years of age
  • Individual women and girls above 18 years of age
  • School clubs (both girls and boys)

2.     Our Areas of Operation

WEGCDA is a national NGO that has been in operation since 2007 with little funding which has enabled it implement a number of development projects in the districts if Wakiso, Luwero, Mpigi, Mityana and Kampala through partnership with other organisations.

3.     Partnership and Alliance

WEGCDA is built on a rock of creating strong global partnership for development where we have for a long time been networking and working together with a number of member and non-member organisations in Uganda locally and nationally. These can include among others; Civil Society Budget Advocacy Group (CSBAG), Mentoring and Empowerment Programme for Young Women (MEMPROW), Tax Justice Alliance, National Organisation of Women Organisation’s in Uganda (NAWOU), Francois Xavier Bagnoud (FXB), CEEWA Uganda, Nansana Civil Society Network (CSBAG), Kiiyita Family Alliance for Development (KIFAD), Together Against AIDS Positive Association (TAAPA), Coalition for Girls’ Empowerment (COGE), Let Girls Lead, Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE), Food Rights Alliance (FRA), Uganda youth Network (UYONET), MINDSET, Institution of Social Transformation (IST), VAD (Voluntary Action for Development), Community Development Resource Network (CDRN), Uganda Pioneers Association (UPA) among others.

4. Governance and Management

As a governing body of WEGCDA, the Board provides oversight within the framework of relevant legislation (including the Corporations Act) and the WEGCDA Constitution.

The responsibilities of the Board include setting and reviewing the WEGCDA strategic direction, monitoring organizational performance, appointing the Executive Director, and deciding on key policy positions to take on behalf of the community.

The Board consists of up to five directors and has Headquarter in Wakiso Uganda.

The WEGCDA’s team of 12 staff is led by the Executive Director who is a chosen leader to lead the team.

5. Organisational Structure

WEGCDA is a woman voluntary Non-governmental Organisation established with an aim of women and girl child empowerment and mobilization to participate in development process.

WEGCDA is a company limited by guarantee without share capital and is registered as a voluntary women’s body.
